  • Aston Villa have been one of the best teams in the Champions League so far, and on Tuesday they get the biggest road test of the league phase. Unai Emery's side visits Barcelona on Nov. 3 at 21:00 CET, 3 p.m. ET, with nine points from three matches.

Villa's run has been convincing. They won 3-2 at Club Brugge in September, beat Fenerbahçe 6-0 and then beat Viking 3-1 on Oct. 21. Nicolas Jackson has been the spearhead, with three goals in the competition.

Barcelona have six points. They beat Feyenoord 5-1 and won 4-1 at Galatasaray before losing 4-2 at Paris Saint-Germain on Oct. 20. That loss exposed a back line that is now short of bodies. Transfermarkt lists Andreas Christensen, Eric García and Dani Olmo as missing, along with Roony Bardghji. Villa are without Amadou Onana, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Matteo Ruggeri.

  • That sets up an honest test for both. Barcelona have Lamine Yamal and Raphinha and almost always get chances at home. Villa have scored 12 goals in three European games and will have room to attack a defense that conceded four in Paris. If Villa leave Camp Nou with a point or more, they will be well on the way to a top-eight finish and a direct path to the last 16.

The other headline Tuesday is in Madrid, where Atlético de Madrid host Bayern München. Neither has been perfect. Bayern beat Bodø/Glimt 5-0 but then drew 3-3 at Viking and 2-2 with Arsenal. Atlético lost at Liverpool, beat Manchester United 2-0 and drew 1-1 at Stuttgart. A win for either would help settle a messy start.

Manchester United host Roma the same night. On Wednesday, Liverpool visit Fenerbahçe, Manchester City go to Leipzig and Arsenal play at Slavia Praha. Most matches kick off at 21:00 CET, with a few at 18:45.

  • After this round, the league phase breaks until Nov. 24 and 25 and runs through Jan. 27.
